Up Against the Wall

Have you ever felt like you were up against the wall? The phrase originally referred to someone standing before a firing squad with nowhere to escape. Today, it describes finding yourself in an impossible situation—with no room to maneuver and forced to make a difficult decision.

It is in moments like these that our resolve is tested, our character is revealed, and our determination is strengthened. Difficult seasons have a way of showing what we are truly made of.

Ephesians 6:13

"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand."

The Apostle Paul knew what it meant to be up against the wall. Shipwrecks, beatings, hunger, imprisonment, and constant opposition never stopped him from fulfilling God's call. His instruction to the believers in Ephesus is the same for us today:

When you have done all you can do, stand firm.

When running is not an option, stand on God's promises. When the answers are not clear, let your faith guide you. When fear whispers that you cannot make it, remember that your confidence is in the Lord, not in your circumstances. We are called to stand firm because Christ stands with us.

Whatever you are facing today, remember that it is temporary. The trial will not last forever, but your eternal reward will. Like the three Hebrew children who refused to bow before Nebuchadnezzar's golden image, resolve in your heart that you will stand for God regardless of the cost.

When you have done everything you know to do—pray, trust, obey, and believe—there is still one thing left to do:

Stand.

With Gratitude, Pastor Jesse
