Learning to Trust Through Giving
Preparing a sermon on giving, I looked through more than two decades of sermons I have compiled and stored. Interestingly, I found only a handful that addressed stewardship. Those who know me well understand that I love to give. Giving and acts of service are part of my love language.
Yet, to the detriment of God's people, I have not taught on this subject as often as I should.
Like many believers, I have watched money-hungry spiritual grifters prey on the desperate, the hurting, and the greedy. They promise prosperity that Scripture simply does not promise. Such manipulation has caused many faithful pastors to avoid the subject altogether.
But avoiding biblical truth because others have abused it is never the answer.
Jesus spoke often about money and possessions. He taught His followers to give willingly, generously, and without expecting recognition or repayment. Generosity is woven into the very fabric of the Christian faith. Our salvation itself is the greatest gift ever given—freely offered through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross.
Malachi 3:10
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it”.
Generosity also changes the heart of the giver. It loosens fear's grip, weakens our dependence on material things, and strengthens our trust in the Lord's faithful provision.
