Knowledge Alone Is Not Enough

We live in an amazing time. Gone are the days of scouring encyclopedias or spending hours researching information at the public library. Today, we carry a vast reservoir of knowledge in the palm of our hands.

One would think that access to such knowledge would naturally improve the way people conduct themselves and live their lives. Yet knowledge alone has never changed a person's character.

The same can be said of the church. Gone are the days when pastors and priests were among the few who could study original languages and biblical contexts. Today, anyone with a smartphone can access resources that were once available only to scholars.

Yet we live in a time when many of God's people seek validation by proving their identity in Christ through scriptural knowledge, while genuine transformation of character often seems absent. Something is missing. The missing ingredient is the work and power of the Holy Spirit.

Our world needs more saints whose lives proclaim God more loudly than their persuasive speech.

I find it interesting that most of Christ's disciples possessed little formal education. This is not a criticism of learning. Study is valuable and necessary. Scripture commands us to grow in knowledge and understanding. However, knowledge is a secondary tool. The primary catalyst for transformation is the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.

The disciples spent years learning from Jesus, yet it was not until they were filled with the Holy Spirit that they turned the world upside down.

So if you desire more of God, seek Him in worship, prayer, and surrender. Do not neglect the study of Scripture, for God's Word remains essential to spiritual growth. But remember, knowledge informs us; the Holy Spirit transforms us.

As Jesus promised, and as the early church experienced, "Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you" (Acts 1:8).
