Scriptural Obedience
In a time when many are deeply divided over the people leading nations, we Christians often neglect the truth that earnest prayer should raise before God for all those in authority. Prayer for the leaders we like and the leaders we do not.
Obedience to God’s Word can be challenging. Yet that same obedience has a way of shifting our understanding to know truth.
Scripture instructs us to pray earnestly for our leaders.
I Timothy 2:1–3 says,
“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.”
It is heartbreaking to see God’s people constantly praising or decrying elected officials on social media while neglecting prayer. In doing so, their testimony of Jesus is tarnished.
We must remember that God’s people are citizens of another kingdom. We are sojourners on this earth. As good and enjoyable as this life may be, it is only a temporary stay. We are commanded, not merely suggested, to pray for those in leadership.
Stand for truth, and live with conviction. But do not allow political allegiance to blemish your witness or overshadow your identity in Christ.
Obedience is not always easy, but it is always powerful. Obedience to God is always right. God honors the heart that trusts Him enough to obey, even when it would rather choose another path.
This world is wrapping up. What we have known will melt like wax. Our time here is short. Use it well. Be about the Father’s business.
