Why I Serve Christ
James was and is a good and dear friend. Twenty-five years my senior. We didn’t have much in common when it came to lifestyle.
I was young, trying to find my way. James was established—successful in business and finance.
But James was my friend. Not because of what he had or what he could do for me. I didn’t value him for his resources—I valued him for who he was. The person.
I watched many people come to him asking for help or assistance. He was always gracious, kind, and generous. But that wasn’t why I liked him.
What we shared was deeper - A kindred spirit. We were like-minded in purpose, in character, in commitment—and that is what forged our friendship.
“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you.” — Romans 8:11
Our relationship with Christ should be the same. The Apostle Paul tells us that the Spirit who lived in Christ should dwell in us. To dwell means to live with—to abide. This is the closest relationship we can know, both in this life and in the life to come.
So why are you serving Christ? Is it merely for the promise of eternal life?
If so, you are missing the greatest blessing of all— friendship with Him.
Eternal life is the gift-Christ is the greatest treasure.
With Gratitude, Pastor Jesse
