Spring Cleaning
I love spring. The temperature begins to rise, the snow fades, and with it comes the promise of better days ahead. Our thoughts turn to outdoor activities, cookouts with family and friends, and maybe even getting back into shape after a long winter.
Then it happens—we look around the house, the garage, the shed… and realize something needs to be done. It’s time for spring cleaning.
We begin putting things back where they belong. We clean the areas neglected during the winter months. We open the windows and let in the fresh air. There’s something refreshing about clearing out what doesn’t belong and restoring order.
Jesus did some house cleaning of His own when He entered the Temple and drove out the money changers. What had once been a helpful service for travelers had become a distraction and a corruption of the Temple’s purpose. Jesus cleared out what didn’t belong and restored its intended purpose—a house of prayer.
Are our lives really that different?
How often do we allow clutter to creep into our relationship with God? We don’t mean for it to happen. Our intentions are good. Yet slowly, programs, schedules, and responsibilities begin to take the place of personal prayer.
Good things can quietly replace the most important thing.
Just as Jesus cleansed the Temple, we too need moments of spiritual spring cleaning. Nothing can replace personal time with God. Not a program. Not a sermon. Not even a Bible study. All of those are valuable—but none of them can take the place of getting alone with God.
Prayer is where we speak from creation to Creator.
He is waiting. He cares about your life—every detail, every burden, every joy. Perhaps today is the day to clear away the distractions, to open the windows of your heart, and let His presence refresh your soul.
He is waiting.
With Gratitude, Pastor Jesse
