What Really Matters

The cell phone is, in many ways, one of the greatest inventions of our age. With just a touch, we can reach loved ones across the globe. With a simple app, we can even see where our family members are in real time. Gone are the days of flipping through encyclopedias or making endless trips to the library. Tomes of information now rest in the palm of our hand.

But with all this amazing technology at our fingertips, how often do we waste it? Hours can be lost scrolling through meaningless posts, laughing at memes, or watching what others are doing. None of these things are wrong in themselves, yet the tragedy lies in the precious time we spend on what does not matter.

Every now and then, we pause long enough to take inventory. We realize just how much of this fleeting gift of time has slipped away to trivial pursuits. We resolve to put down the screen and pick up real face-to-face moments with the people we love.

The Apostle Paul reminds us to redeem the time and make the most of every opportunity (Ephesians 5:16). Time is one of God’s most valuable gifts. None of us knows how much sand is left in the hourglass. What we do know is this: time invested in God and in others will never be wasted.

So let us spend wisely. Let us lift our conversations more often heavenward, Let us lean more deeply into relationships that reflect Christ’s love. These are the investments that carry eternal dividends.

With Gratitude, Pastor Jesse
