Freedom from Want

Stories of self-preservation during arduous times have a unique way of gripping our hearts. Accounts of people overcoming overwhelming obstacles and dire situations inspire the human spirit, awakening courage to endure and hope to rise above whatever life may cast our way.

Scripture speaks often about what we are to do in times of need and to whom we should turn when circumstances grow dark. It also provides real-life examples—men and women who faced impossible odds yet prevailed. In His graciousness, God has given us stories of ordinary people who overcame extraordinary challenges by trusting Him and choosing what is right.

Wherever your own story finds you today, know this: God is both able and willing to help in every circumstance when we turn to Him.

The Apostle Paul—who endured nearly every situation imaginable—discovered the secret to overcoming:

Philippians 4:11, 13
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances… I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Paul’s strength, courage, confidence, and resolve flowed from his relationship with God. True contentment is found only before the Throne of Grace. In communion with our God, we receive all we need for this life and the life to come.

Jesus instructed us to seek first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33). He knows our needs—every one of them. Pursue Him. Make your relationship with God your highest priority. His Word assures us that when we seek Him first, He will take care of us.

With Gratitude, Pastor Jesse
