We Shall See the King!

Most of us love a good mystery story. Whether you grew up reading the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew or discovered newer series like Enola Holmes, there is something intriguing about trying to figure out who did it, how they did it, and why.

But there is one mystery that is greater than them all: death.

What happens after this life? What will it be like? Where will we go? What will happen to us? The human race has wrestled with these questions since the beginning of time. Every culture has developed its own theories, beliefs, and religions concerning what will happen beyond this life.

The Apostle Paul gives Christ followers the answer.

1 Corinthians 15:51–52

“Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”

Paul calls it a mystery because God is revealing something that was previously hidden. On that great day, both the dead and the living will take part. The day of Christ’s return for His Bride will be a day of eternal transformation.

Change is required. We will be changed from mortal to immortal. From perishable to imperishable. We will be made like Christ.

For the believer, much of what happens beyond this life has been revealed. We may not know every detail of what eternity will look like or exactly what we will be doing, but we know something far more important: we will be with our Savior and we will be like Him.

That is enough for me. We can have confidence that wherever the Lord places us in His eternal Kingdom, we will be completely satisfied because we will be with Him.

So, while we wait for that blessed day, let us be about our Father’s business. Let us serve Him faithfully. Let us keep our eyes fixed on eternity and our hands busy doing His work. May He find us serving at His return.

So, keep this song on your lips and this truth in your heart:

We shall see the King when He comes!
