My wife’s self-appointed job was to get our children out of bed every morning. Her chosen method of encouragement has left a lasting impression on their minds and hearts. Today, that tradition is being passed on to our grandchildren!
What was her secret? The joyful melody of “Rise and Shine!” It was a fitting expression of my wife’s cheerful disposition as a morning person. While some of us need a little time before we are ready to face the day, she was determined to greet each morning with joy!
When you think about it, is there a better way to begin each day? Starting our morning with joy and a heart ready to glorify God can set the tone for everything that follows.
Philippians 2:15
“That you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world.”
The Apostle Paul calls us to live in such a way that our lives shine brightly in a world that desperately needs the light of Christ. He encourages believers to live blamelessly, demonstrating through their words, attitudes, and actions that they belong to God.
Our world may be filled with darkness, but God has called us to be lights! We do not shine because we are perfect or because life is always pleasant. We shine because Christ lives in us. As we reflect His character, we point others toward the goodness, holiness, and glory of our heavenly Father.
So, how are you approaching each new day? Do you begin with dread and discouragement, or with a heart full of gratitude for the life God has given you?
Whatever challenges await you today, remember this: You have been given the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ! That truth is greater than yesterday’s disappointments and more enduring than tomorrow’s uncertainties.
You may not be a morning person, but you can still greet each day with the joy of the Lord!
Rise and shine! Let the light of Christ shine through you today.
With Gratitude, Pastor Jesse
