God’s Children
Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them!
For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.”
During His brief earthly ministry, Jesus said much about children—and not simply because they were cute or innocent. In fact, the Lord used children as living illustrations of the kind of heart and faith that inherits the Kingdom of Heaven.
One such moment came after He had just confronted the Pharisees, who were more concerned with rules than relationship. As His disciples tried to dismiss a group of children who had been brought to Him for prayer and blessing, Jesus stopped them in their tracks. He didn’t see these children as a nuisance—He saw them as the very picture of what Heaven welcomes.
What was it about children that Jesus wanted us to see? What quality makes them models of Kingdom living?
Faith. Simple, trusting, childlike faith.
Children don’t worry where the next meal will come from. They just ask. When they’re afraid, they reach for the hand of someone they trust. When they’re hurt, they don’t hesitate to cry out for comfort. When they want to play, they run freely into joy. My own children never questioned whether I would provide—they simply expected I would, because they knew I loved them.
This is the posture Jesus invites us to adopt toward our Heavenly Father. Not a faith rooted in self-reliance or religious performance, but one that looks up and says, “I trust You.”
God already knows what we need before we ask, but He still wants us to come—hungry, hurting, joyful, or afraid. Why? Because we’re not just servants or students—we are His children.
So today, let go of striving. Silence the voice that says you have to earn God’s love. And instead, come to Him like a child—honest, expectant, and full of trust. The Kingdom belongs to such as these.
With Gratitude, Pastor Jesse
