The Compassionate Christ

Our Christ is described as the visible image of the invisible God. In other words, Jesus revealed all the characteristics of God through His humanity. The love, joy, passion, zeal, holiness—all of these attributes were God displaying His divine character through the Sonship of Christ.

Of all His attributes, compassion stands tall. Compassion means being moved to act on what is seen. In the Gospels, the word describing Jesus’ compassion is always passive—it came upon Him when He saw a need or someone in distress. Jesus would see—really see—the condition before Him, and His inward being would stir with a deep emotional desire to help.

As followers of Christ, we too are called to live with compassion—to see the needs around us and be emotionally compelled to act. In a world growing ever colder in sympathy and empathy, we are called to make a difference—to walk the path of compassion. The light of Christianity burns brightest when love propels us to act on behalf of those in need.

So, let your light shine. See the need. Allow compassion’s embrace to move your heart—and act in the love of Christ.

With Gratitude, Pastor Jesse
